Season 4, Episode 14: Student Spotlight with EHS Field Hockey Players Autum Kernechel and Lauren Kushma

It’s normal for high school varsity athletes to put pressure on themself. Being a freshman on a varsity team only magnifies that intensity. Now, think about the expectations of being a first-year member of the nationally-ranked, defending state champion EHS field hockey team.

Autum Kernechel and Lauren Kushma cracked through and earned a spot on the varsity squad in what turned out to be a historic year for the program. The team celebrated a second-consecutive and 14th overall state championship along with coach Sue Butz-Stavin’s 46th year of coaching capped by her national-record 1,000th victory. On this episode, listen to Autum and Lauren talk about what it took to make the team, compete at a such high level, and transition to high school all in the same season.
